Sewage sludge is a by-product in terms of terminology, waste generated at industrial and municipal sewage treatment plants in the process of sewage treatment. Sediment analyses are performed mainly for the purpose of sludge management.

Regulation, which rules all legal issues concerning sewage sludge is the Regulation of the Minister of the Environment of 6 February 2015 on municipal sewage sludge (the Journal of Laws of 2015, item 257).
